What is a Direct Cremation?

At Poppy’s, we offer a Direct Cremation service for people who do not want an attended funeral ceremony. But what exactly does that involve?

We’ll explain what you can expect from a Direct Cremation at Poppy’s.

Why do people choose Direct Cremations?

People choose Direct Cremations for an enormous variety of different reasons.

Some friends and families have a private event planned for later and want the cremation to be separate from the memorial. In other cases, people may just want space to grieve and prefer not to hold a ceremony at all.

Direct Cremations are a cost-effective option, although this is often not why they’re chosen. It’s quite common for the person who has died to have requested a simple funeral, and this is a way of honouring that wish.

Ultimately, this is about choosing an option that feels right to you, and the reasons for that will always be unique.

What can I expect from a Direct Cremation?

A Direct Cremation does not have a ceremony attached, but involves the same thoughtful care from our team that we offer to all our clients.

It will take place at Lambeth Crematorium on a date which we will choose and share with you.

The price includes everything you need, including a simple coffin and hearse, doctors’ and cremation fees. We will also support you to complete all the necessary paperwork.

With a Direct Cremation, you have the option to visit the person who has died and/or have them dressed, both for an additional cost.

If you choose to visit your person, you can spend time with the person who has died at our beautiful Friends and Family room. During your visit, you can play music, light candles or use your time however you wish. You can also have your person dressed in clothes that you choose for them.

We’re always happy to talk more about Direct Cremations or answer any other questions, so please do get in touch. You can also find more information and costs on our website.
