There’s nothing unusual about needing some extra support when you’re grieving. Palliative Care Nurse Charity Garnett has put together a list of organisations that offer support when someone close to you has died. Their services include counselling, information, advice and other practical help. Please do reach out if you are struggling.

Cruse Bereavement

Cruse is a national organisation with local branches. Their mission is to make sure that grieving people receive support. Cruse offers email and website support, as well as a free national helpline.

Cruse also provides specific support for parents, military families, and has a website (Hope Again) set up for children and young people. They also offer training about bereavement awareness.

Bereavement Advice Centre

The Bereavement Advice Centre is provided by Co-op Legal Services. They’re a national organisation offering advice on all aspects of bereavement. They also operate a free helpline and will research any questions or queries that they don’t have answers to.

Good Grief Trust

The Good Grief Trust provides links to bereavement support across the country, bringing together national services so grieving people are always able to find support. They have information for people of all ages and in a variety of different circumstances.

Their website is also an excellent resource for finding local support groups — they even run their own online Good Grief pop up cafe during Covid-19.

The Silver Line

The Silver Line is a befriending service for people over 60. They also provide a free 24 hour support line.

Child Bereavement UK

Child Bereavement UK supports children and young people (up to 25) who are grieving or facing bereavement, as well as their families. They also help families when a baby or child dies or is dying.

They offer a wide variety of helpful information and resources, face-to-face support sessions (currently suspended due to Covid-19), and a free helpline.

Winston’s Wish

Winston’s Wish offers support for grieving children, young people, and their families. They run a free helpline, text crisis support for young people, and an online chat service.

Winston’s Wish also provides in-person drop-ins, two locals support services (currently suspended due to Covid-19), and a number of useful resources on their website.
