Poppy’s receives Green Mark Level 1 accreditation

Poppy’s is delighted to announce that we have received Green Mark Level 1 accreditation.

Green Mark provides an internationally recognised environmental certification for companies that want to assure their clients and employees that they are conducting business to recognised environmental standards.

We’re proud to offer greener choices for our clients, but it doesn’t end there. We’re committed to minimising our own environmental impact in all we do. This is the first stage on our journey to developing how we can get to Net Zero as a business.

The Green Mark accreditation process is a rigorous one. Poppy’s were required to submit information and supporting evidence to demonstrate that we are conducting business to the required standards. We were provided consultancy from Green Mark on how we can improve the environmental impact of our operations and developed an audit and action plan to drive our ongoing environmental actions.

Our accreditation was made possible by funding from Wandsworth Council.

Here are just some of the actions we’ve taken to achieve this accreditation:

  • Measuring all of our waste and seeking to reduce the proportion of landfill and clinical waste. Last year 55% of our waste was recycled or re-used, and we’re looking to increase that proportion in 2025.
  • Supporting clients to make green choices where that works for them. 62% of coffin choices last year were made from sustainable materials.
  • Choosing to work with suppliers who run their own businesses with awareness of the impact they have, and make products that are kinder on the planet. That includes things like sourcing our IT and telephony from fellow B Corp providers, sourcing second hand and refurbished IT equipment and furniture for our new office, and buying Fair Trade supplies for our kitchen.
